To witness the number of guests walk into the event made my heart fill with joy. As I stood in the front and the back I was able to see the genuine interest of the families in what they were witnessing unfold this evening. A night that had many months of preparation with the young poets showcasing all the hard work over the past few months. With the addition of the entertainment by Marion Franklin and South High schools strings ensemble directed by Ms. Ebersole was a delightful treat. The entire night showed just how important Miracles in Motion is and how it brings individuals and families together which in turn brings our communities together. I have great anticipation of doing Open Mic again as well as other events to share just how powerful the arts are. Allowing us to cross bridges and knock down walls with every artistic expression. ~ Lakesha R. Newson, CEO & Founder of Miracles in Motions

Free

Flightless use to fill my days
Now others look and are amazed
At the freedom they now see
As the power of grace moves through me
An angelic sight of vibrant energy that carries love all around
Through graceful aerodynamic flying
The signal of freedom placed on display
Without making a single sound

Puerto Rico

Beauty surrounded by the blue ocean.

Tourist absorbing the magnificent culture.

Sany beaches, beautiful countryside, and waterfalls.

Mouthwatering food to satisfy your Spanish taste buds.

Music in the air and school children everywhere enjoying

their day in Old San Juan.

After enjoying the place filled with vibrant color I had to

focus on why I was really there.

I wasn't there as a tourist but to extend a helping hand to

      my fellow man.

Who are tucked away on this beauty island that seem so

      far away.

Where majority of the people live in poverty who wish

they had an eough just to make it through the day.

Who work from sun up to sun down just to make a dollar

      or two.

Homeless people all around trying to blend in with the

      crowd.

Waiting for the night to fall searching for the next place to

       lay their head.

Some are too tired to wait so they make their bed on the

park bench just to rest their weary eyes.

Puerto Rico in its magnificent beauty is more than just a

       tourist attraction its home to our fellow Americans;

our fellow brethren if you may.

Who need us to know that Puerto Rico is more than

       beautiful sandy beaches and countryside.

It's a land that has a real need; a land that needs us to

      show that we care.

Realizing that it is more than a place for tourist, but

a place that many call home.

I Love the Skin I'm In

See I love the skin I'm in!

I love my hair, my lips, and my eyes.

Even the gap I have. I love the substance I have within.

The fight and tenacity that us Sagittarius always have.

I understand where I've come from. Those ROOTS run deep.

I mean don't you see my hair. Although I am only one person I encompass thoughts of so many others.

So when I think to that day on January 15, 2006.

I am always remember “Not to let yesterday’s disappointments overshadow tomorrow’s dreams.”

Stick to the goal because you just never know how close you are to becoming someone’s inspiration

The inside of you has all the potential to be great

Each day take one step closer to the dream

Keep the courage and the faith that one day you will wake up and realize that you and the people around you have become the people y'all have always wanted to be because y'all held tight to the vision and understood the process. Keep on marching into freedomland.

And always remember that life is like a mirror, if you keep smiling it smiles right back at you.

See With Your Heart Not With Your Eyes

What do you see when you look at me?

An acceptable appearance that works for our society.

When do I see when I look at me?

Often things I don't like to see.

What I want you to see, when looking at me.

Is my kindness, my composure, self-respect, and dignity!

Look at me!

The eyes behold Beauty by sight, the heart behold loveliness by senses.

Tell me what do you see?

LOOK!

Not through eyes of your sight, but with eyes of your heart.

Then, you will see the real me!

That's what I'm hoping everyone will see!

It was such an honor to be a part of, and attend such a visually Productive and Culturally Diverse program. Diverse by participants of the poetry club and by we the audience! Beautiful!!! I truly enjoyed the entire program, of course Your Honorees were the highlight. What a pleasure to hear their expressions of words in poetry. The honorees were asked who was their Hero? At least three said their mother, and their words of expression totally touched your heart. It was a pleasure to hearing their thoughts, transferred to words expressed in their writing through poetry. I would love to support any other events that Miracles in Motion sponsors. Great Job! ~Marquetta Jones

I was impressed with organization of the event and how it was pulled together by the all of the different things presented; it was smooth. I had personally never seen musicians come and put on a program. I was totally impressed. People seem to enjoy themselves. The food was simple. It was a good meal that was simple and satisfying. The could see from the children’s faces that they were totally proud for being a part. ~Diana Johnson
